How and why was ANI born?
ANI was born out of a shared concern for the financial struggles of students at QueSci. Arnold Agcaoili and Phil Isorena, deeply moved by stories of students missing school due to transportation costs, sought to make a difference.
Their initial efforts to connect with these students through personal networks and organizations were unsuccessful. Undeterred, they reached out directly to QueSci via the Philippine Department of Education, leading to the sponsorship of Pauleen Sol and Alfred Tadena in 2022.
Inspired by the success of their initial sponsorships, Arnold and Phil aimed to expand their reach. Despite initial challenges, they decided to take their efforts online, launching ANI's website on April 9, 2024. This symbolic date commemorated the bravery of the Bataan soldiers and honored the perseverance of financially strapped QueSci students.
While the launch seemed timely for the start of the 2024-2025 school year, ANI's newfound presence in the QueSci community led to a late influx of applications. Despite this, six deserving students—Abigail, Briana, Carrie, Chesca, Ken, and Rhycka - were selected to become ANI's inaugural scholars, in addition to Pauleen and Alfred.
As ANI continues to grow, Arnold and Phil are committed to building a sustainable organization. With the support of donors, sponsors, and their outstanding scholars, ANI is poised to make a significant impact on the lives of needy QueSci students.
When is the application period?
Starting in 2026, the application period will run from December 1 of the current year through March 1 of the following year.
How are scholars selected?
ANI’s mission requires fairness, transparency, and consistency. To ensure this, ANI uses Ranking Rubrics which guide evaluators to apply metrics consistently and uniformly.
How many scholars are selected and how often will they be selected?
ANI's budget relies purely on donations. Based on previous years, maintaining at least 10 scholars annually seems reasonable. Additional scholars may be added if the budget allows.
Once the scholars are selected, will they have to apply each year?
No. ANI’s scholars will remain as such until graduation from high school unless they lose their good standing as QueSci students before graduating.
Will the scholarship program only last until Grade 12 or up until college?
We created ANI specifically for QueSci students. Thus, it will cover only high school.
Do the students receive 100% of the donation?
Yes. All moneys go to the students. We don’t charge for admin costs and we don’t get paid.
How do we know if the students go to school regularly?
They submit report cards quarterly. We will know every quarter if they’re maintaining their good standing.
Is there some kind of student monitoring, e.g., drug-free, etc.?
No. We trust the students and the school system. We've never had any problems with our scholars. If we did, we'd find out via their school performance. If they have failing grades, we'd give them a chance to improve their grades. If they get two failing periods, then they're out of the program.
Who will administer and manage the funds?
ANI’s officers consisting of a president, vice president, secretary, and a public relations officer manage the program.
What information regarding the scholars would be provided to donors?
Upon request, we can provide donors with the scholars’ contact info and records of school performance provided the scholars and school agree to such request.
Is there an end date for this project?
ANI would become irrelevant and cease to exist when there's no longer a student needing financial support. We sincerely hope that that day will come!
