“Because it’s there,” famously declared George Mallory when asked about his Everest expedition. This sentiment perfectly encapsulates the driving force behind my co-founding of ANI. The need is undeniable.
UNICEF and the World Bank paint a sobering picture: between 2013 and 2022, an estimated 333 million children worldwide endured the harsh realities of extreme poverty, lacking adequate nutrition, quality education, and a glimmer of hope for the future. Closer to home, the Philippine Statistics Authority’s 2021 report revealed that a distressing 19% of Filipino children live in extreme poverty. These statistics are a stark reminder of the immense challenges facing our youth.
But amidst this despair, there is a beacon of hope. Arnold Agcaoili
Vice President
QueSci Batch 72; BS in Public Health – University of the Philippines; retired software engineer; devoted husband and father; and a proud grandfather.
Arnaldo earned a Bachelor of Science in Public Health from the University of the Philippines in 1977. While his aspiration was to pursue medicine, financial constraints necessitated a different path. He embarked on a successful career in the computer industry, progressing from a programmer at UNIVAC Corporation to a Systems Analyst and ultimately a Programming Consultant in Canada.
In 1982, he relocated to the United States, where he continued to excel in his field, specializing in Software Engineering and Benchmarking. However, a spinal cord surgery in 2005, resulting in the paralysis of his left leg, unexpectedly altered his trajectory.
This unforeseen turn of events led Arnaldo to discover a renewed sense of purpose in giving back to the community. Alongside his wife, a dedicated medical doctor, he actively participated in annual medical missions to the Philippines. Witnessing firsthand the hardships faced by impoverished communities and reflecting on his own journey of overcoming adversity, Arnaldo developed a deep passion for supporting aspiring students.
Raised by parents with limited formal education, he profoundly understood the transformative power of education to break the cycle of poverty. This understanding fueled his commitment to helping others achieve their academic dreams.
To date, Arnaldo has proudly mentored and supported numerous students in their career pursuits, including lawyers, engineers, teachers, and even a police officer. Driven by a desire to alleviate the financial burdens faced by deserving students at his alma mater, QueSci, he co-founded the ANI Scholarship Program. This initiative reflects his unwavering belief in the power of education to unlock human potential and create a brighter future for all.
Carrie Hazel Gubalane

QueSci Batch 2026; BS Management Engineering Student – Ateneo de Manila University; youth leader; believer in the power of student voices.
For Carrie, leadership has always been an act of service. Back at QueSci, she made it a point to listen closely to her fellow students—to understand what they needed, where they were struggling, and how those problems could realistically be solved. That drive for representation eventually brought her to the presidency of the Supreme Secondary Learner Government, where her focus was simple: give students a real voice, and turn their concerns into actual projects and solutions. Her involvement in student governance also extended citywide. She served as Public Information Officer of the Quezon City Division Federation of Supreme Secondary Learner Government, representing public high school learners across the entire city.
That same passion carries into everything she does outside formal leadership roles too. Carrie genuinely enjoys the work she does—whether through student organizations, youth initiatives, or community programs—to build something that creates opportunities for others. Along the way, she’s sharpened her problem-solving instincts and come to believe that leadership only really matters when it leads somewhere: when listening turns into a project, a challenge turns into a solution, and an idea turns into something with real impact.
Being a scholar herself, Carrie knows firsthand what a difference that kind of support can make. Her scholarship has opened doors—academically and through the experiences that have shaped who she is as a student and a leader. That personal experience is exactly why she’s so driven to help other students access the same kind of opportunity.
Now, Carrie serves as Secretary of the ANI Scholarship Program while pursuing her degree in Management Engineering at Ateneo. Through ANI, she wants to bring her experience and her heart for service toward building a community where every student gets a real shot at their goals, regardless of what they can afford. Having once been given that chance herself, she’s hoping to pass it forward.

Briana Kimberly Samson
Public Relations Officer
QueSci Batch 2026; BS Management Engineering – Ateneo de Manila University; Freshman Merit Scholar; researcher; and advocate for youth empowerment through innovation.
Briana Kimberly B. Samson graduated as the Salutatorian of QueSci’s Class of 2026. Throughout her years at QueSci, she found purpose not only in academic excellence but also in serving alongside organizations, publications, and initiatives that sought to create meaningful opportunities for others.
Her interest in research and innovation has led her to pursue projects that address real-world challenges. Her team is one of the Grand Winners of INNOHub: Mga Solusyon Mula sa Bagong Henerasyon for KUTIS, an AI-assisted eczema recognition system aimed at making dermatological screening more accessible across diverse skin tones. She is also part of the teams developing PUGAD, a youth-centered financial literacy and investing platform, and BLAZE, a startup exploring affordable burn care solutions through agricultural byproduct.
As Public Relations Officer of ANI, Briana hopes to strengthen the ties between alumni, scholars, and partners while helping ensure that every student feels supported in pursuing their education. Having experienced firsthand the impact that scholarships can have, she believes that acts of generosity, whether through mentorship, encouragement, or financial assistance, can quietly but profoundly shape another person’s future.
Beyond academics, Briana has been privileged to serve in various leadership roles in student organizations and publications, experiences that have nurtured her love for communication, collaboration, and community-building. She hopes to continue carrying these values into her work with ANI and, in time, contribute to the same culture of kindness and opportunity that has helped her grow.

As Secretary of the ANI Scholarship Program, I diligently record all meeting minutes, ensuring they accurately reflect the discussions, decisions, and actions taken during board meetings, committee meetings, and any other official gatherings. These minutes serve as the official record of our organization’s activities and are crucial for legal and historical purposes.
I play an active role in maintaining open and supportive communication with our scholarship recipients. This may include acknowledging their achievements, providing updates on scholarship deadlines and application procedures, and answering their inquiries regarding the scholarship program.

I am committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for deserving students at Quezon City Science High School who require financial assistance to pursue their academic goals.
As Liaison Officer, I will actively engage with students, faculty, and stakeholders to build strong relationships and ensure the successful implementation of our scholarship initiatives I believe that by providing these bright young minds with the necessary resources and support, we can empower them to achieve their full potential and contribute meaningfully to society. I am dedicated to making a lasting positive impact on the lives of aspiring scholars at Quezon City Science High School.
